I will not celebrate Kentucky today. Yesterday’s ugly Tea Party sweep of state offices has eclipsed Kentucky’s natural beauty for the moment. As for the future? We just thought dystopia was something to fear in the distant future, but somehow here it is–surprise!
So I’ll shutter the blog for today, fly the flag at half-mast, and go look for something to believe in. Because today I don’t believe in Kentucky.
What you can celebrate is your own deep compassion and caring for other people. “How far that little candle throws his beams! So shines a good deed in a weary world.” ~ William Shakespeare. We must keep those candles of Hope and Tolerance burning and not let anyone put them out.

Thanks, Susan. Today is hard, but, of course, that’s what I’ll do–soldier on.

I keep thinking that voters will learn when they see the Tea Party politics dragging down other states. Apparently not. Florida, where I live, has some of the same problems. When will they ever learn?

I guess they don’t seek out any news other than what’s available in the right-wing echo chamber. I don’t know what it’s going to take to make people wake up.
